BELL / FISCUS RACING (BFR) dominated the Precision Turbo Pro Mod class with both a win and runner up finish at the Pacific Street Car Association (PSCA) Street Car Super Nationals “Anarchy at the Arch” race at Gateway Motorsports Park in St. Louis, Missouri on August 27-29, 2015.
During pre-race testing, Jim Bell put down a monumental run. He went 5.88 at 238 mph in the quarter mile and established a new personal best elapsed time, despite having lifted at the 5.6-second mark as the car was moving around a bit. Based on the data, and a 1.93-back half split, Bell expects the car could have run 5.83 had he not had to lift.
In the first round of Pro Mod qualifying, Kevin Fiscus immediately set the standard with a 5.931 at 245.40 mph pass and claimed the top spot with his twin turbo, PLR-powered 2012 Ford Mustang. Meanwhile, teammate and 2014 event winner Bell went 6.224 at 222.55 mph in his twin turbocharged, Pro Line Racing 481X-powered 1969 Chevrolet Camaro to land in fifth. Fiscus improved upon his performance in round two, and his 5.916 at 247.16 mph run ensured he stayed in the number one position. Bell improved significantly as well, and put down a great 5.940 at 233.36 mph run to move into second, merely one-hundredth of a second behind Fiscus. Round three saw an even quicker and faster run for Fiscus who stopped the clocks in 5.881-seconds at 249.12 mph and held strong to his number one ranking. Bell remained in the number two slot, and after the fourth and final qualifying session, the results were made official with Bell/Fiscus Racing taking the top two positions in the field.
Fiscus’ flawless performance in qualifying earned him a bye run in the first round of eliminations. Bell, however, put down a mean 5.974 at 243.33 mph run to defeat the number five qualifier, Jim Whiteley, who had run 6.034 at 240.17 mph. In round two, which also served as the semi-finals, it was Bell’s turn to enjoy a bye. Fiscus defeated Sidnei Frigo, the number four qualifier, going 5.872 at 248.84 mph to Frigo’s 5.943 at 244.92 mph pass.
The Bell/Fiscus Racing teammates were paired in the finals for an all-BFR finale. Both drivers wanted the win and the $7,500 prize, and the battle began at 1:30am. Fiscus had a great 0.025-second light and Bell’s was a decent 0.050. The cars ran side-by-side, and as they approached the stripe, it was hard to tell who was in front. Finally, the scoreboards lit to show Fiscus had won with a 5.945 at 232.75 mph pass over Bell’s 5.996 at 233.08 mph.
“I lost in the final round to my team mate, but we couldn’t have asked for a more picture-perfect weekend with Bell/Fiscus Racing getting both the win and the runner up finish, the top two qualifier spots, and me running a new personal best ET during testing,” said an elated and proud Bell.
Both Bell and Fiscus will be competing in the Pro Mod class at the NHRA Chevrolet Performance U.S. Nationals race at Lucas Oil Raceway in Indianapolis, Indiana on September 4-7, 2015 as the Bell/Fiscus Racing team continues their 23-race commitment for the 2015 season.
